Welcome to Tao de Wan Wing Chun kung fu and Meditation.

Personal Training in Wing Chun kung fu and Meditation in Sydney

Tao de Wan

Hi, this is Sifu Wan and I am the founder of Tao de Wan. I offer training that educates you to consciously change maladaptive habits of coordination (i.e. movement, posture and tension patterns) using Wing Chun kung fu. My vision is to provide health, fitness and self defense education that empowers participants and inspires happy, harmonious and healthy communities.

Wing Chun Kung fu is not only for self defense & fitness

There are a lot of misinformation and contradiction around the fitness industry. Most trainers lack understanding of how to exercise with correct alignment, and give mind-body education.
So I’m on a mission to re-educate people on the scientific facts that are proven to achieve long lasting, healthy results. With Tao de Wan, you will start moving with correct posture, free your body from tension and develop mind body fitness.

Bad habits affect our functioning

Maladaptive habits change our general sensory feedback. They change our perceptions of what feels “right” (even when a person thinks they are sitting or standing straight, but in fact they aren’t) These altered perceptions and affiliated feelings affect everything we do which involves our coordination. Wing Chun teaches you to get back to natural efficiency.
An example of natural efficiency of human movement can be seen with a baby who spontaneously sits up by himself. Generally, a baby of 12 months sits very upright naturally. In fact, it is far easier and more natural for a baby to sit upright than for the typical adult who slouches into a supposedly “relaxed” movement/postural pattern. As a child grows, he usually starts to imitate the mannerisms of those around him, such as parents, peers, and teachers. These “imitations” often become permanent and the child will probably lose any conscious awareness that he is doing them. The child may also experience injuries or other uncomfortable experiences which lead to more fixed, inefficient habits. These habits can become a constant interference with his natural fundamental coordination. This on-going interference can affect how his muscles develop, how he moves, how he breathes, and how his alignment and posture develop.

These bad habits often result Back pain and soreness
– Back pain and soreness
– Headaches from muscular tension
– Lack of confidence
– Inability to focus, which affects your work and life
– Anxiety and much more…
*Do you answer yes to any of these?*

–A LIFE SKILL-
Learning to apply the principles of Wing Chun, whatever your age or lifestyle, can progressively raise your standard of functioning and give you the knowledge and skill to maintain this throughout your life.

Who can benefit?

Wing ChunOn the psychological side, it can greatly enhance your response to stress as you learn not to store the stress in your muscles. It is especially useful for tense or anxiety related symptoms. It can be quite transformative in the long term as you unlock and release deep-seated and unconscious holding patterns. It is an excellent adjunct to therapy for trauma recovery. Many students report feeling great freedom both physically and mentally. Wing Chun helps young adults and middle-aged people to cope with the ever-increasing responsibilities of life, reduce stress and get a competitive edge in business. Others use this Wing Chun style to develop inner discipline, open their heart and mind, and unleash their spiritual potential. The major benefits for children and teenagers are self-confidence, discipline and learning how to use the correct biomechanics to minimize injuries and prevent bad posture. [more on benefits for children and teenagers] Wing Chun is for all ages, all levels and all abilities.

Learning with Sifu Wan

What one learns in a personal training session is a unique and practical means Learning with Sifu Wanof stopping and changing habits. This learning process allows one’s sense of coordination to regain its natural “perspective”. Sifu Wan takes the student through basic movements (Sil lum tao form) giving gentle hands-on guidance. Through this guidance, the student experiences more natural and easy coordination without the on-going interference of habits. Repeating these experiences of natural, fundamental movement stimulates the student’s internal coordination mechanisms to become more accurate. This develops his/her ability to choose better coordinated and non-stressful responses to stimuli. The student is able to make lasting habit changes.

With this wing Chun training you will learn;

learn wing chuhow to consciously relax (not sloppy, ‘sleeping’ relax) to allow chi flow and recharge your energy.

-chi sau (“sticking hands”) – movements & exercises to develop sensitivity in hands/arms for absorption & redirection of incoming force

-release muscular tension (especially around spine, neck & back) relieving pain and improving posture.

-fast, easy to apply movements for self protection

I enjoy training those who are absolutely serious about investing in themselves. I am not a ‘gym junkie’ or ‘drill sergeant’ who wants to put you through your paces, I am caring, well educated, a passionate trainer who will become a huge part of your life for the time you’re training with me.
